Businessman Lee Thomas has expanded his business portfolio by acquiring specialist fabrication company Fabweld.
The acquisition of the High Peak-based company, which specialises in high-grade non-ferrous fabrication, strengthens Lee’s existing company TH Plastics – an ancillary solutions provider for the plastics industry.
The acquisition offers additional support to the Glossop-based company’s in-house fabrication department allowing them to expand capacity to meet customer demand.
TH Plastics has formed a separate arm of the business called TH Fabrications – which allows the business to carry out full installation of water and air pipework, customised parts and large bespoke projects.
The latest takeover is in addition to the recent amalgamation with GW Lomas and Sons, who specialise in general engineering fabrication work.
Lee Thomas, Managing Director of TH Plastics, said: “These acquisitions further enhance our complete turnkey offerings.
“Having the fabrication and engineering capacity in house enables us to have shorter lead times for customers and complete control of the process. This also gives us more flexibility when it comes to bespoke solutions and a tighter grip on product standards.
“We were getting a greater demand for fabrication work, particularly for water cooling installations and full factory relocations. Previously we were bringing in external fabricators but the demand for fabrication work has enabled us to bring this two companies under the same banner as TH Plastics.”
More technically challenging projects
Fabweld and GW Lomas and Sons allow TH Fabrications to complete more technically challenging projects like pressure vessels and bespoke fabricated items, with an additional 15 engineers to assist with large-scale projects.
Lee now plans to ensure standards across the different workshops are in line with the standard TH Plastics expects, and to improve the performance of the workforce and the technology used.
